Jeff Lacy's defense was much better in this fight than Calzaghe. Not sure if that had more to do with Calzaghe's speed and angles or if Lacy just fought incredibly stupid against Calzaghe. To me it looks like Lacy went into the Calzaghe fight with the mentality of looking for a knockout and that's not a smart way to fight. Now, I don't think Lacy would have ever beaten Calzaghe after we seen what happened him in that fight but I think he could have put up a better fight and a better defense. I see him blocking a lot of these punches in this fight. I know Scott Pemberton is no Calzaghe so that's the difference but Lacy was hurting people before he ran into Calzaghe and I think fighters fall in love with their power. I believe the same kind of happened with Mike Tyson to some degree. People were shocked when Buster Douglass upset Tyson and while Calzaghe is definitely better than Douglass since Douglass didn't do anything after the upset I do feel like Tyson went into that Douglass fight just looking for the KO. It's the wrong mentality to have. It's a boxing match not a street fight. Have to have the mentality that you want to pile up points. Obviously easier said than done since your opponent is in the way.
